Today is the first day of 2016.
Have you ever noticed how we all tend to think of New Year’s as a fresh start? Why is that?
Why is it that a new year is when we want to start making our changes?
The truth is, all our lives we look for “fresh starts”; times that we can fix ourselves, change the way we do things. A new year, a new school, moving to a new town- we see these as opportunities to change. Why? Because we see these times as blank pages that we can fill.
True, in reality, we could start just as easily any other day of any other month.
True, in reality, we could start just as easily any other day of any other month.
A new year just feels different, maybe because it is so obvious a starting place. It’s by its title 'new'. The fact that the year is beginning again just gives us a springboard for our attempts.
The thing to remember is that while New Year’s is a great place to start, it isn’t the only beginning point. When you wake up in February and realize you’ve already broken all of your resolutions, you can still try again.
It's hard to remember when we get lost in our patterns and schedules, but every day is new. Every day is a blank page, an opportunity to change.
New Year’s is a great time to determine what we want to do with our year, but every day is a chance to accomplish those goals. When we fail one day, the next day is our chance to try again.
So go enjoy a year of 365 fresh starts.
Lamentations 3:22-23 "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
